New Head Football Coach Named

This past Wednesday Northview Principal Brian Downey and Athletic Director Scotty McDaniel introduced Coach James Thomson as the new Football Head Coach to a group of parents and athletes at an Open House.  Coach Thomson comes to Northview HS from UCLA, where he served as an Offensive Analyst and coached the Running Backs.  Prior to UCLA, Thomson was a successful Head Coach in the state of Florida.  At age 25, he became the youngest Head Coach in the state and by age 27 had guided Gainesville High School to a 25-3 record and led the Purple Hurricanes to the 6A State Championship game in 2012.  GHS was ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation and recorded the first undefeated season in school history.  Thomson was named the “6A Florida Coach of the Year” in 2012, as well as the “SunPreps Coach of the Year”.  Coach Thomson then accepted the opportunity to rebuild 8A DeLand High School and lead the program to an unexpected 7-3 record and playoff appearance in 2014.  He was selected as Head Coach of the East Team for the Central Florida All-Star Game.

Coach Thomson has also interned with the Jacksonville Jaguars during their mini-camps, in 2008-2009.  He worked with the Running Backs under Coach Kennedy Polamalu.  Thomson also sits on the board of the Polynesian Coaches Association and has spent the last ten summers donating his time to the All-Poly Camps in Salt Lake City, UT and in Pago Pago, Samoa.

A former quarterback, Thomson has had the opportunity to speak at many clinics, including the University of Florida and the Nike Coach of the Year, on his offenses.

The Northview Titans finished the 2016 season at 2-8, a disappointing setback after reaching the state playoffs in 6A the prior two years. “We’re going to be hard-nosed, and we’re going to have fun.  It’s too early to tell [if there is going to be a complete overhaul of the team],” Coach Thomson said.

2016 Brings New Team, New Region, New Energy

Welcome to the home of the Titans!

On the field, 2016 will have a new look. Northview is part of the 6A Classification which will look very different this year with the creation of the new 7A Class. This is where we will remain for the next FOUR years. The Titans will compete in Region 7 along with Centennial, Cambridge, Johns Creek, Chattahoochee and Alpharetta. With a varsity non-region schedule that includes Lanier and Winder, and a lineup of traditional nearby rivals, this season is shaping up to be one of the most memorable in Northview's history.
